In 2026, Processing turns 25. This October, we will celebrate together around the world, through events organized by local communities. If Processing or p5.js have been part of your work, teaching, or creative practice, start planning a Processing Community Day in your city!

  1. Introduce yourself below: Tell us who you are, where you’re organizing a PCD, and what ideas you have for the event.
  2. Post a local thread: Post a topic titled PCD @ City Name 2026 in the Community category (make sure to use the pcd tag), or just use this link.
  3. Add your event to the map: Open an issue on GitHub. After a review, it will appear on the PCD map.

About Processing Community Day (FAQ)

PCD is a global network of community-led events that brings together artists, designers, technologists, educators, and open-source communities around the world.

The duration can be as short as a two-hour programming tutorial, or as long as an all-day event with workshops, discussions, performance, exhibitions, or presentations on software art.

In 2026, Processing turns 25. To mark the occasion, Processing Community Day (PCD) returns as a worldwide celebration.

When should my PCD take place?

We strongly recommend choosing a date in October, as it gives everyone enough time to prepare and will make it easier for all of us to coordinate communication, and celebrate Processing’s 25th anniversary together as a shared global moment. That said, you are free to pick any date and time that works best for your local community, just note that we may have more limited capacity to support promotion outside of that window.

Where should I host a PCD?

This depends on your local context and the spaces you have access to. We generally recommend partnering with public or community-oriented venues with stable Wi-Fi, such as libraries, schools, community centers, art or cultural venues, hackerspaces, cafes, tea houses, or bars. Whatever the venue, picking a fixed date and location should be your first priority.

If several groups are planning a PCD in the same city, we encourage you to team up. It makes communication easier and helps promote the event clearly as PCD @ City Name. Besides, hosting an event can also be a lot of work, especially if it is your first time, so having co-organizers can really help spread the effort.

What kind of support does the Processing Foundation offer?

We are unable to provide financial assistance for local events, however we will provide an Organizer’s Kit (coming soon…), which includes a step-by-step guide, press release template, workshop examples, and other resources. We will promote your event through our social media, and on the interactive map. Please use the hashtag #PCD2026 and tag Processing Foundation when posting on social media so that we can help promote your event.

Do you handle sign-ups and ticketing?

We do not manage or distribute tickets on behalf of local node events. As an organizer, you will determine whether ticketing is a preferable option for your event. We encourage all organizers who are planning to charge a fee for the event to provide affordable options for accessibility and inclusivity.

Hi everyone, I am Leilei Xia, I do animation, tactile art and community engaged project. I am currently teaching p5.js in interactivity classes in University of North Carolina Greensboro. I am looking forward to hosting a PCD at Greensboro for the first time! I am envisioning the event to invite people to experience drawing things with ml5, and try using p5 to create their own drawing app. I am curious what other ideas everyone has!

My name is Benoit, I am a Professor in Computer Science in Montreal, Canada and I teach a graduate course on algorithmic art at Université de Montréal ( GitHub - rethread-studio/algorithmic-art-course: Collection of resources for the algorithmic art course at the Université de Montréal · GitHub ).

I’d love to have a PCD in Montreal, at Université de Montréal or another University in Montreal.

The Center for Concrete and Abstract Machine and Peripheral Study is hosting a Chicago-based meeting of Processing Community Day in October 2026. We’ll be celebrating 25 years of Processing with workshops, talks, and presentations at Co-Prosperity in Bridgeport.

Hi! I’m SHAWNÉ MICHAELAIN HOLLOWAY. :black_heart: My colleague, the wonderful Kate Siccio, and I will be hosting a PCD celebration in Richmond, VA. We’re excited to reach out to others in the community in hopes of expanding the network but we’ll host at Virginia Commonwealth University! We’re hoping for some lightening talks, a keynote, a yummy lunch, and some workshops that culminate with some kind of an exhibition at the end!

Excited to report back about how it shapes up.

Quick updates of the day:

  • We already have 4 events on the map! Thanks PCD @ London, PCD @ Greensboro, PCD @ Chicago, and PCD @ Denver. Add yours!
  • Added a bug report issue template. Feel free to use it if you notice any issue on day.processing.org.
  • Made the Plus Code validation more flexible. It now accepts different formats like V9H4+MC, PARIS or V9H4+MC PARIS FRANCE, instead of only full codes like 8FW4V9H4+MC. Alternative formats no longer cause validation to fail.
  • The event submission form now requires a forum thread link, to encourage ppl to join conversations about local events from the map.
  • Added links to all the local threads to the first message in the thread.

My name is Luo Xiao, a creative technologist and digital artist from China, focus on creation and teaching of interactive media, artificial intelligence, and generative art. (About – avantcontra).

In the 2010s, I co-founded what was then China’s most active interactive media art forum with artists like Raven Kwok and Vinjn, among others. In 2019, I participated in PCD’s event in Shanghai, where I gave a lecture on OSC and launched a scaffolding tool for developing WeChat mini-games using p5js, called p5.we.

I currently run a tech&art enthusiast community (called Experimental Programming), now in its 10th year. Experimental Programming (实验编程, code2art.com) is a pioneering community and knowledge platform centered around technology and art, connecting cross-disciplinary experimenters worldwide. It originated from HUDOIT, China’s most active interactive media art forum in the 2010s. As a source of cutting-edge creative paradigms, it has long been invited to provide teaching solutions and technical support to many universities (including the CAFA, Tongji, Tsinghua, etc.), focusing on the practical exploration and knowledge dissemination of AI, interactive media, and generative art.

I hope to organize this year’s PCD event in Shanghai or Suzhou (the two cities are adjacent), maybe other cities like Beijing. Our community can host a series of workshops, forums, exhibitions, and other events.

Hi everyone!

Quick updates of the day:

  • We have added PCD @ Leicester and PCD @ Shanghai to the list! Welcome @avantcontra and @seanzshow!

  • I made it a lot easier to update the info for your event! Click the “Edit this event data” link in the details panel (see the image below). It will send you to a pre-filled issue template on GitHub were you can modify or add to your event’s information. A script will validate the new data and create a Pull Request. Feel free to try it and let me know if you notice any bugs.

  • Direct links to you events now have a unique id so they won’t break even if you rename your event. All the following links should work:

    • https://day.processing.org/event/pcd-denver-2026-155d825/ (default)
    • https://day.processing.org/event/155d825/
    • https://day.processing.org/event/pcd-denver-2026 (For backwards compatibility. Will break if renamed)

  • The recording of the first info session is now available. If you missed it you can still catch tomorrow’s session #2. Click the link to register so that you get notified when we go live.

Aloha :call_me_hand: I’m Karen — media artist, community organizer and now a PM working in advertising. I work closely with the p5.js team and contributors most likely crossed paths with me via email in my PM capacity

Since moving to Tokyo, I have been interested in connecting with the Processing / creative coding community… so looking to harness this PCD opportunity to connect with folks :people_hugging:! Currently put a shout in the PCD Japan discord, but posting here to really officiate this for myself :smiling_face_with_sunglasses: & of course, call for collaborators!

Logistics, I have not much planned as I have no idea where to start for venues ^-^;

Format, I appreciated the zine / community approach shared in the info session!

Hello! I am Eddie Farr (he/him) I am a creative technologist living in Atlanta, GA United States. I learned Processing through the Coding Train (Yay Dan) many years ago and since then have used it primarily as a way to visualize data and to then use that data to control lighting elements on sculptures. I also host workshops through the City of Atlanta Cultural Arts program.

This will be my first time hosting a PCD. I’m not sure on the size but my plan is to reach out to as many schools, colleges, art groups. Atlanta is home to several technology and art colleges.

My take away from the info session was to have a diverse representative lineup of speakers and to have activities that will encourage those from different groups to engage with each other. With the goal of finding/starting a community and to then host future events that would be more hands on workshop based.

The idea of doing a coding version of Exquisite Corpse came to mind (A game where each person draws a part of a person without seeing what others have drawn) but this might not be possible. Maybe just the physical version?? I will think on this more.

There is a city funded technology lab and a larger technology gallery that I plan to reach out to for hosting the event.

Hello! I am Edwin Jakobs. I am a creative coder and teacher from The Hague, The Netherlands. I co-run a studio (RNDR) for interaction design and I am the principal developer of OPENRNDR.

There is a pretty large space at my disposal and I would really like to use it to serve the local community. I have no idea what size of event to go for. I am interested in creating a space for exhibition, performance (live coding), show-and-tell and connecting.

Hi. My name is Santiago Gaete Fernández, I’m a design student at Universidad Diego Portales.

With my team at the Interaction Design Laboratory, we will be hosting the next Processing Community Day Chile 2026, at Escuela de Diseño of the Universidad Diego Portales.

The event will consist of a expanded event, with guest speakers, projects and a call to apply for a projects showcase. This will happen along to the final exam of the first version of the first mandatory coding and interaction class of the school. Open to the chilean community of media arts and creative coding.

  • The events are open data! You can make a Processing or p5.js sketch from the events on the map! Just use the JSON at https://day.processing.org/data.json

I’ve also made a number of improvements to the map website to make it more fun to share and easier to create a new event.

  • More colorful, informative, and shareable link embeds (very happy with how that thumbnail image turned out!)
  • Added a welcome modal (Thanks to Noland for the UX feedback, even though it eventually boiled down to “people don’t like modals” :sweat_smile:).
