PCD @ Starkville, MS 2026

Hi! I’m organizing a Processing Community Day 2026 event in Starkville, MS, United States.

Processing and P5.JS has been an important component of my practice, research, and teaching since it was introduced to me in 2019 during my time in the MDes program at the IDCE FHNW HGK Basel, CH campus.

Since then, I have found myself teaching art and design at the undergraduate level in my home state of Mississippi, United States. Mississippi is strange place for many reasons, but a beautiful place nonetheless. Our students and art communities often find themselves in a bubble, and bridging the gaps between our local environment and more global design communities can be tricky. Very often, artists and designers from Mississippi who are interested in new media and poetic technologies find themselves leaving the state and pursuing belonging in more established communities elsewhere. I myself took a similar track, and my return to this space has been filled with reflection and duty to help build on our local creative communities as much as possible.

In regards to PCD 2026, I would like create a hybrid space workshop (digital and face to face) so that our local students and community have a physical space to gather and engage in PCD, but also have the chance to interact with those from other communities across the globe.

There has been a plethora of small scale p5.js workshops I have hosted for my students over the years, primarily related to empathetic data visualization (data humanism, as defined by Giorgia Lupi).

I’ll update this thread with more details as planning progresses.

Very excited to take part in PCD and celebrate 25 years of these incredible and open source tools!

Best,

AP
