Unable to create a new sketch after upgrading to Processing 3.4 on OSX 10.13.6

I had previously used Processing on my Macbook about a year ago with no issues. I believe I was on version 2.7 or so. I didn’t use the software for quite a while so am not sure during which OSX update, but at some point, Processing would no longer start. I have installed the latest Processing (3.4) and am still facing issues. Processing now loads after about 30 seconds. But File > New does nothing.

I can open an existing file to at least get a console loaded. After opening a file, then trying to create a new file, I get an error message in the console: “Error while assigning the sketch template.”

I’m on OSX 10.13.6 and am on Oracle Java version 8 update 181. Thanks very much for any help in troubleshooting this!

I’m pretty sure Processing only runs on Java 7, could you try going to Tools > install processing-java?

Yes, that did the trick! It does it silently in the background apparently with no notification or progress displayed.

Thanks for your help!
