Title: Reference links show sidebar but blank main panel on macOS Ventura (Chrome)

System:

  • MacBook (Intel) running macOS Ventura 13.7.6

  • Chrome browser (latest)

  • Processing 4 (issue occurs with both previous build and latest build)

Problem:
When I click on reference links (e.g. PGraphics) from within Processing, Chrome opens a page that only shows the left-hand sidebar (“REFERENCE”) with the list of topics. The main content panel is blank.

If I click on a small grey :cross_mark: just under the search box on the right-hand side, the correct page then loads. Once I’ve done this once, subsequent reference links work normally during that session.

What I tried:

  • Tested both before and after installing the new Processing build (same result)

  • Restarted Mac, rebooted in Safe Mode → no change

  • Disabled Chrome extensions → no change

  • Checked accessibility settings (low vision user; I had recently adjusted them, but resetting didn’t fix it)

  • Allowed JavaScript / insecure content in Chrome site settings → no fix

  • Tried iPad (Chrome) → reference works normally

  • Tried p5.js references on the same Mac → they work normally

  • After full shutdown/restart, occasional temporary glitches (screen inverted colors once, but went away after reboot)

Timeline:

  • Until I got the Processing “new build available” notification, references worked normally.

  • Right after that notification (before and after updating), the issue began.

  • This timing coincided with me changing some macOS accessibility settings, but I don’t recall which came first.

Summary:

  • Issue is consistent on my Intel Mac (Ventura + Chrome).

  • Does not happen on my iPad (Chrome).

  • Workaround: clicking the grey :cross_mark: under the search box loads the page.

Any ideas if this is a known issue with the Processing reference site + Chrome on Intel Macs?

PS; I just noticed that this issue and solution exists when I tied to visit the Environment page
