I keep downloading the windows 64-bit version on my laptop and the 34 just in case and when i download them i open it and it comes up in a 7-bit file manager. I thought it would come up as an application on my homescreen or something. I have no idea how to get it to work

It comes as a .zip file. You have to unzip it- you can put it wherever you want (I usually put mine on my desktop).
The unzipped directoy contains a Processing.exe file that you can run.
