Open Call for 2025 Software Development Grant (pr05): "Building Bridges"

I wanted to ask p5.js editor project do we need to specify the components that we propose to migrate?

@ProcessingOrg @sableraph In this grant what will be selection criteria?? did we need to submit a proposal or just the application form ??

Thank you all for your questions and your patience.

We won’t be able to offer individual feedback on applications for pr05 due to limited capacity but
if you have any questions, please feel free to ask them here and we’ll do our best to support you in replies.

We aim to inform selected applicants before June 15th.

Yes, we encourage you to suggest which parts of the editor you would propose to migrate.

You only need to submit the application form. You are welcome to include supporting documents if you feel they would help.

Here’s what the FAQ says about selection criteria:

What are you generally looking for in applications?
We look at your understanding of the project, proposed approach, relevant experience, and how this opportunity fits into your broader career path. Take some time to research and understand the specific project you’re applying for. We don’t expect you to have everything figured out, but showing that you’ve considered the project context and technical challenges, and offering your own understanding or perspective, is very valuable. If something in the brief doesn’t make sense, don’t hesitate to question or challenge it. Be as specific and personal as you can.

Hey @stefterv , I am interesting in applying to the project “Desktop Support for p5.js via a New Processing Mode”. I have few questions. We have to create an electron app (basically a code editor) which can run p5.js sketches in it. Am I right? Also what could be good starting point. I have gone through your repo which is in Kotlin.
Thanks

Also if you can explain me why there is need to create a new mode for it. “” Cannot we just link index.html with main.js (this is where our sketch would be).
If not then please guide me regarding mode thing.

Hi @muhammadharoon021, great that you are interested in applying!

The Processing Development Environment (PDE) is written in Java so modes for it can only be created in Java or in Kotlin. This grant will require you to write both Kotlin and JavaScript.

The intention of the mode is to make creating p5.js sketches based on Electron much easier, taking away much of the boiler-plate necessary to create an electron app.

Hi everyone,

I’m Joackim from France. Reading this post made me feel like I’m joining the party a little bit late. I’ve been learning a lot by reading through the different resources and repositories, and hope to make a decent application. It really is great to see so many people being pationate about these projects! Cheers
