Making variables persistent?

What I’m trying to do is make a persistent colour saver, which means that the variables that store the custom colours will need to be saved on exit and loaded on startup. I thought maybe if i could make the program write those variables to a text file on exit and then make it read and apply those on startup that would work but I have no idea how to do that. I’m really not sure what to do with it right now. If you need the code please tell me. By the way I’m using Java
