Getting accented typed chars from keys (like "é")

I found this answer from @George on StackOverflow but it doesn’t work for me:

How to capture diacritics with keyPressed() in Processing?

I’m on Linux using a Portuguese Layout that uses “dead keys”(?) like “backtick” + a to make à or “acute” + e to make é.

Any tips?
