4.4.4 runs ok from command line, but not as app

Hi! Glad to be back after being away for a while.

I just downloaded 4.4.4 for Mac silicon (MBP, Sequoia 15.5 (24F74)). When launching it as usual from Applications as an app, nothing happens!

But if I launch it from the command line: /Applications/Processing.app/Contents/MacOS/Processing – it works fine!

Can anyone suggest what the issue may be, please?
Many thanks
Toby

Not saying yours is, but I’ve seen quarantined apps behave that way.

Thanks svan. I had the same thought, but there was no alert or notification on running it as an app.

Hi @toby,

That’s very strange and I can’t reproduce the issue on my MacBook Pro running 15.5.

Each release of Processing is code signed and notarized, so it shouldn’t be quarantined. And as you said, macOS would normally display an alert if that were the case.

Could you try Processing 4.3 and Processing 4.3.1 and let us know if the same issue occurs with those versions?

For accurate results, make sure to close all running instances of Processing before opening a different version.

Is there any additional info you could share about your setup? Anything out of the ordinary that might help us narrow it down?

A post was split to a new topic: Multiple background processes on Win 10 while not running Processing

Hi @sableraph. 4.3 and 4.3.1 work fine as apps. Then I tried 4.4.4 again. It worked!

Aaaaagggh! I rebooted and repeated. The same. So the problem has, as they say, Gone Away.

I’m really sorry to have bothered you and the Forum with this, as it seems the issue was something unreproducibly transient and weird in my setup.

best wishes!
Toby
