# Why do I at occasion see //\<\>// in the editor?

At occasion I see `//<>//` in the Processing editor. Usually it is at the top of the main pde file but I now did find it in the middle of another file as well.

I’m sure I did not put it in there. What is the purpose? I did find this old topic ([Why does sometimes //\<\>// appear at the top of my sketch?](https://discourse.processing.org/t/why-does-sometimes-appear-at-the-top-of-my-sketch/5844)) but it does not have an answer 😉

They are indicators for the breakpoints that have been set in the debugger
