Even sample code fails to run with a vanilla installation of Processing 4.3.3 in a Linux container on an ARM Chromebook (installed using [these](https://discourse.processing.org/t/how-to-install-processing-on-chromebook-step-by-step-guide/41878) instructions).

Is there anything in the following error messages that would indicate a logical next step to get Processing working on this device?

* * *

The IDE starts up fine but shows this console error:

```auto
The function "noLoop()" does not exist
```

When I run this code …

```auto
size(400, 400);
ellipse(200,200,300,300);
```

… I get this error in the console:

```auto
Could not run the sketch
```

and

```auto
/home/mb668/processing-4.3.3/java/bin/java: 1: : not found
/home/mb668/processing-4.3.3/java/bin/java: 1: cannot create x@@8@8@@@@hh: Permission denied
```

The only java installed on the system is what would have been included in the Processing installation package.

```auto
mb668@penguin:~$ java -version
openjdk version "17.0.14" 2025-01-21
OpenJDK Runtime Environment (build 17.0.14+7-Debian-1deb12u1)
OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM (build 17.0.14+7-Debian-1deb12u1, mixed mode, sharing)
```

Should Processing work in a Linux container on an ARM Chromebook, or do these errors mean that Processing will never run on this device?

Solved. Don’t download the Linux version but rather the Raspberry Pi version. The former is x86 architecture and the latter is ARM. Yes, this is obvious in hindsight but was not obvious at the time.

That’s a good catch! Thanks for sharing your solution, @mb668 🙏

When downloading Processing for your Chromebook, make sure to select the version that matches your CPU architecture:

- **ARM (32-bit)**: [processing-4.3.3-linux-arm32.tgz](https://github.com/processing/processing4/releases/download/processing-1296-4.3.3/processing-4.3.3-linux-arm32.tgz)
- **ARM (64-bit)**: [processing-4.3.3-linux-arm64.tgz](https://github.com/processing/processing4/releases/download/processing-1296-4.3.3/processing-4.3.3-linux-arm64.tgz)
- **Intel/AMD (64-bit)**: [processing-4.3.3-linux-x64.tgz](https://github.com/processing/processing4/releases/download/processing-1296-4.3.3/processing-4.3.3-linux-x64.tgz)

To check your CPU architecture, open a terminal and run this command:

```auto
uname -m
```

- If the output is **`x86_64`** , download the **Intel/AMD 64-bit** version.
- If the output is **`aarch64`** , download the **ARM 64-bit** version.
- If the output is **`armv7l`** , download the **ARM 32-bit** version.
