# Is there a way to extract samples from an audio file?

Is there a way to extract every individual sample from an audio file for processing?  
I want to do things with samples from audio files, but I’m not sure how to do that.  
It doesn’t matter what format of audio file, although I would prefer being able to use every audio format.  
Any help would be appreciated,
