Thanks for that; replaced the snap install by the portable version and it immediately solved my serial port problems.
Linux is not the most user-friendly OS but I can find my way around (I’ve professionally worked with various distros for the last 25 years including software development and server maintenance). Having to dig into snap to enable serial port access is however a bit too much asked now I’m retired
