# I cant get this to work

I am trying to use this laser maze processing code and i cant seem to get it to work  
[Laser Maze site](https://www.instructables.com/Lazer-Maze/) and when i try and run it it says “Could not run the sketch (Target VM failed to initialize).”

Hi @dep6142, and welcome. I see this error very occasionally. Yes, it’s annoying for a second but clicking ‘run’ or ^r again runs with no problem. Is it any worse than that for you? If so please try some of the examples: File, Examples… and tell us how they run.

Mouse interaction in 2d, Mouse Acr Tangent, Flocking, and Rotation Arcs in 3D works just fine

Are you saying the Laser Maze sketch fails every time? Need to break it down and find which feature of that sketch has the problem. Back to examples, try one or two Libraries, Serial examples. Make a test copy of Maze sketch, use ‘[binary chop](https://wiki.c2.com/?BinaryChop)’ to find what is making the issue. First delete is all the contents of draw().
